How do you access news?

How has this changed in the last 5, 2 or even 1 years? With the availability of new technologies we have seamlessly integrated a multitude of formats into our day-to-day life. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, blogs, vlogs, vodcasts and podcasts are now ubiquitous and available at the touch of a screen.

Does anyone even watch ‘the news’ on television anymore? How has the rise of the podcast in the social media age changed the way we ingest news and current affairs? How has this change in format in turn changed the role of the journalist in our society?

Join Walkley award-winning journalist, TV presenter and internet commentator Jan Fran who will discuss these ideas and more- if we are lucky she 'might' even talk a little about her upcoming memoir, Of Middle Eastern Appearance, to be published by Hachette Australia.

In case you have been hiding under a rock, Jan is the creator, writer and presenter of the online opinion segment, The Frant, which has been viewed more than 20 million times and which earned her a 2019 Walkley nomination for Best Commentary, Analysis, Opinion and Critique. She is best known for hosting The Feed on SBSVICELAND and the podcasts The Few Who Do, and Sexism in the City. She has a new gig for 2020 as host The Pineapple Project podcast.

Warning: This author talk will contain adult themes, coarse language and is not suitable for young children. It is recommended for ages 16yrs+ or at Parents/Guardians discretion
